Technical Regulations of the Customs Union “Safety of Equipment for Working in Explosive Media” (TR CU 012/2011)
Technical Regulations of the Customs Union “Safety of equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres” – TR CU 012/2011 came into effect on February 15, 2013.
Equipment used in explosive gas or dust environment must not create a fire hazard. Equipment certification under TR ТU 012/2011 gives you the right to use this equipment in explosive conditions. EasyGOST EAC Service offers certification of products under this document with optimal efforts.
TR CU 012/2011 “Safety of equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres” covers electrical equipment, Ех-components as well as nonelectrical equipment designed for use in explosive media. Upon this, certification can be made for both complex production plants, consisting of a large number of Ex-components, and elements of control and protection systems (signal lamps, end switches), sensors, measuring tools and other simple devices and appliances.
Equipment and Ex-components for use in explosive media are identified by explosion-proof marking applied according TR CU 012/2011 requirements as well as explosion protection means provided by the manufacturer and specified in technical documentation.
For the identification of devices and Ex components for use in potentially explosive atmospheres the manufacturer must affix an Ex marking in accordance with the requirements of TR CU 012/2011 and specify the intended explosion protection devices in technical documentation.
Scope of Regulation
TR CU 012/2011 covers Ex-equipment classified according to:
- Explosive atmospheres (Ex Hazardous areas);
- Groups (application fields);
- Explosion protection levels;
- Explosion protection types;
- Temperature classes.
The legislative body has excluded the following equipment from the TR CU 012/2011 scope:
- Medical products;
- Equipment in operation of which the danger of explosion arises only because of the presence of explosive substances and unstable chemical compounds;
- Equipment for domestic and non-industrial use in conditions where an explosive atmosphere is formed due to unforeseen leakage of flammable gas;
- Personal protective equipment;
- Marine vessels, vessels of inland and mixed (river-sea) navigation, mobile offshore platforms and drilling platforms for working in sea and inland waters, other floating crafts, as well as machinery and equipment used on them;
- Public transport intended for carriage of passengers and cargo by air, land, rail or water;
- Nuclear weapons, research facilities of nuclear-defense complex, except for equipment which is incorporated in their structure and is located in explosive areas.
Content of Regulation
TR CU 012/2011 includes:
- Rules of market circulation of equipment for explosive areas;
- Requirements for explosion safety, including those related to its design;
- Mandatory requirements to the operating documentation;
- Procedure for confirmation of explosive media equipment compliance (certification);
- Marking rules;
